Lanett High School Band

band

LHS Marching Band is open to students in grades 6-12. Band students meet for band camp in late July to begin working on the upcoming school year’s halftime show. This year we are performing “The Divas.” In addition to learning the halftime show students also work to learn stands tunes to play during the football game.

The LHS Golden Panther Band is made up of a group of hard working students from Lanett High School, Lanett Junior High School, and W. O. Lance Elementary schools. These students come together to create beautiful music and exciting imagery. The students are involved with helping to run the band itself. Each marching season we have a Drum Major who is chosen through an audition process in the spring prior to the upcoming season. The Drum Major works with the Section Leaders to help all band members be at their very best. Section Leaders are chosen each fall by Mrs. Dyson. Finally, we have a Band Captain, Uniform Officers, and Equipment Managers that assist with helping the band to run smoothly behind the scenes.

The band also participates in various community activities. We have performed for a Point University football game, the Ronald McDonald Parade, the annual City of Lanett Christmas Tree Lighting, and the Greater Valley Area Christmas Parade just to name a few. Additionally, once a year we try to visit local nursing homes and senior centers to perform for our community members who can’t always come out to other events.

If your student in interested in joining the band he/she can do so at any time! We do offer Beginning Band to 5th and 6th grade students at W. O. Lance Elementary every spring. This is where the students begin learning their instruments. However, it is NEVER TOO LATE for your child to learn an instrument and join the band!!

We couldn’t do this by ourselves. We have a wonderful group of parents who come together and form the LHS Band Boosters. The sole mission of the Band Boosters is to help the band achieve greatness. The boosters run the concession stands at all LHS and LJHS football games, chaperone band trips, pull the equipment trailer, help run errands for the band, and sponsor the students in numerous other ways. The Band Boosters usually meet bi-weekly during the fall semester and once a month in the spring semester. We encourage you to get involved and be a part of the LHS Band Boosters! For information about joining the Band Boosters please contact Ms. Dyson at 334-644-5985.
